Maths statement of intent
By the time they leave Northgate we aim for our children to;
Have developed a sound understanding of Mathematics, equipping them with the skills of calculation, reasoning and problem solving that they need in life beyond school.
At Northgate we follow the aims of the new National Curriculum. These are fluency, mathematical reasoning and solving problems.
We develop the use of mathematical language and we help the pupils to express and discuss their own methods for calculating and problem solving.
Pupils are taught a range of strategies from which to choose, that encourage logical and systematic thinking, efficiency and accuracy.
Our Mathematics Yearly Overview and Progression Map for this academic year can be found here.
The Foundation Stage use a scheme called ‘Numbers and Patterns’ to inform their planning.
Key Stage 1 and 2
Children are taught the 2014 National Curriculum content. Teachers' planning is supported by some high quality mathematics resources, including the White Rose Hub materials, the NCETM Professional Development Spines, I See Reasoning and I See Problem-Solving and problems from the NRich website.
