Science statement of intent
By the time they leave Northgate we aim for our children to;
Use their natural curiosity to develop scientific knowledge and experimental skills that will help them now and in the future.
Science at Northgate provides opportunities for children to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live both through practical experience and from other sources of information. Science is a body of knowledge built up through experimental testing of ideas. Science is also methodology, a practical way of finding reliable answers to questions we may ask about the world around us.
At Northgate our children learn to ask scientific questions and begin to appreciate the way science will affect their future on a personal, national and global level. They are encouraged to carry out their own investigations and discover things for themselves.
Wherever possible, the teaching and learning of science is enhanced by educational visits using the local area as a resource or visitors to the school. Science week helps to raise the profile of science in school and allows the children to experience a range of exciting activities and mini projects.
